Dear Colleagues,
Today marks the final day of MASS STEM Week 2019.? The theme of this year’s activities was “Picture Yourself in STEM.” Through the generous support of the 无尽资源采集 Education Foundation, we had a number of activities occurring in our District including Dr. Mark Siddall’s engaging presentations on scientific learning (his visuals of leeches will not soon be forgotten!). Additionally, there were forums on Women in Science, Aspiring Doctors, and a Robotics Workshop.
Part of the focus this year was on considering under-represented groups in STEM fields such as women and minorities.? And this is where we can play an important role in schools as we encourage and empower a more diverse group of students to picture themselves in STEM.? I fear we lose too many future innovators in these fields because we remain tied to traditional notions of who is suitable for these careers.? A new generation of scientists may have been inspired this week and I challenge us all to consider ways to maintain that momentum.?
Thanks for all that you do in support of our students and have a great weekend!
Best regards,
David
