Dear Bates Families,

As we say goodbye for the summer, thank you to all of our families for partnering with us in every way possible. Thank you to our PTO for the support you provide to our school community. We are so fortunate to have such an engaged and caring community that truly makes Bates a special place.

This year has been filled with incredible moments of learning, growth, and joy. We’ve watched your children discover new passions, build lasting friendships, and develop into remarkable young learners. We couldn’t have achieved all that we have without the dedication of our amazing teachers and staff, who have worked tirelessly to create meaningful learning experiences for each and every student.

As a reminder, report cards are available at 3:00 pm today on the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  As you review your child’s report card, I hope you will take time to celebrate all the wonderful growth and achievements they’ve made this year.

Looking for learning opportunities this summer?  Consider:

    Dear Bates Families,

What an incredible day we had!  A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers and supporters who made Field Day such a tremendous success.  This morning our fifth grade vs. staff kickball game brought smiles and cheers from students, staff and families alike. Field Day provided an unforgettable experience for all students filled with teamwork and fun. We are deeply grateful to our families who generously gave their time and energy to set up, lead more than 40 activities and games, and handle the cleanup afterward.  Your dedication and community spirit make events like these possible and truly special for our students.

    Faculty Transitions

It is with mixed emotions that I share news of several Bates faculty and staff who will be taking new opportunities next year.  Bates art teacher Jacqui Martell will be transitioning back to the 无尽资源采集 Middle School, where she will teach ceramics, photography, and general art.  Reading interventionist Louise Griffin鈥檚 intention will be to start the year in a new role at the 无尽资源采集 Middle School.  Additionally, first grade teacher Katy Comstock will be taking a leave of absence next year. We are deeply grateful for Ms. Martell, Ms. Griffin, and Ms. Comstock’s contributions to our school community, and they will be greatly missed.

    Summer Learning Resources

Each year, WPS publishes our for families.  This valuable resource includes summer reading recommendations and optional learning activities in math, science and engineering, and Spanish, all designed specifically for elementary students. We encourage families to explore these engaging opportunities throughout the summer months.

    Final Week of School

As we prepare for the final week of school, please note these important dates:

    • Wednesday, June 18Full day of school for students

    • Thursday, June 19 – No school in observance of Juneteenth

    • Friday, June 20 – Last day of school, noon dismissal

    Fifth Grade Clap Out

All families are invited to participate in the Bates tradition of the fifth grade clap out on Friday at dismissal.  Just before 12:00, fifth graders will proceed through the halls of Bates where every student, faculty and staff member will clap and cheer as they pass.  Families are encouraged to join us by lining the front walkway before 12:00, ready to cheer enthusiastically for our fifth graders as they leave Bates for the last time.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to celebrate our fifth graders and send them off to middle school with love and encouragement.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Warm regards,

    Toni Jolley

    Dear Bates Families,

What a wonderful afternoon we had celebrating our 无尽资源采集 High School seniors during today’s clap out!  It was heartwarming to see so many of our former Bates students return with their families, proudly wearing their red caps and gowns.  Our current students were absolutely amazed and excited to see these “very big kids.鈥   The entire celebration was truly special.

    Celebrating our Bates Students

These last few weeks offer a number of opportunities to honor our current Bates students and celebrate their achievements.   Wednesday’s Spring Concert was absolutely fantastic.  Our band, orchestra, and fifth grade chorus delivered an outstanding performance that showcased all their hard work this year.  Next week brings the excitement of Field Day along with the much-anticipated staff vs. fifth graders kickball game.  Our final week will be particularly meaningful with the Fond Farewell ceremony honoring our fifth graders and their families, followed by the PTO Family Picnic and culminating with our Fifth Grade Clap Out.

It’s wonderful to have so many opportunities to come together as a community and celebrate our students’ growth and accomplishments.

Planning for Next Year: Classroom Section Update

As we finalize our plans for the 2025-2026 school year, the district continues to monitor enrollment numbers at each school and grade level.  Based on current registration, Bates will have the following class sections next year:

    Kindergarten

    2 sections

    Grade 1

    Grade 2

    2 sections

    Grade 3

    3 sections

    Grade 4

    3 sections

    Grade 5

    2 sections

I hope to share staffing updates and grade level teacher assignments prior to the end of the school year.

    Toni Jolley
